I worked as a graphic and website designer for thirty years before listening to my inner voice and becoming a full-time artist. It’s been about six months now and I’ve never worked harder in my life. It feels like I’m constantly doing something with my new business or thinking about something with my new business. Organizing, planning, researching, ordering products, reading, marketing, and of course, creating art! It’s a LOT of work and sometimes I feel like I’m just spinning my wheels. I’m learning that being a full-time artist is not for the faint of heart—but for those that are FULL of heart. It takes every ounce of your heart and soul to put yourself into your art. You have to accept that not everyone will like what you create, or appreciate all the time and effort you put in to your work. Self-care is a very important aspect of living as an artist. You have to consistently draw from your inspiration and remind yourself why you wanted to ever be an artist in the first place. The glass won’t always be half full, but as long as you keep pouring into it, you’ll continue to nourish your artistic soul. 💗
